Le sue origini sono incerte, ma è parte del patrimonio vitivinicolo abruzzese da secoli e occupa circa 900 ettari. Tradizionalmente utilizzata in uvaggio con altri vitigni, oggi viene vinificata anche in purezza, con l’85% richiesto per la tipologia Abruzzo Cococciola DOC. Il vitigno è produttivo, con grappoli compatti e acini di buccia gialla. Presenta una buona adattabilità climatica e si matura all'inizio di ottobre. I vini ottenuti sono di colore giallo paglierino, con profumi freschi di fiori e agrumi, e un sapore vivace con acidità citrina.
