Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dhà (70CL, 46.3%)

The Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dhà – pronounced “Toch-ach ah-ghaa” – can be translated from Scottish Gaelic as “Smoked Two” because it is the second release of the Islay distillery's peated whisky. This single malt Scotch whiskey is aged in a mix of American ex-bourbon and European ex-sherry Oloroso barrels. Bottled at 46.3% vol it is not cold filtered and no coloring added.

Color: Light amber

Aroma: On the nose it has a certain salinity with notes of toasted peanuts, pepper, plum, ginger and hints of toasted oak.

Taste: Deep on the palate with notes of sea air, pepper, smoked herring, blackcurrant and dark chocolate with hints of sherry and barley malt
Finish: The finish is of medium persistence, slightly spicy with notes of pepper, barley malt, chocolate and a nice note of smoke at the end

The main difference between the Bunnahabhain distillery and other distilleries on the Isle of Islay is that Bunnahabhain does not normally produce peated whisky. In fact, after its renovation in the 1960s the property decided to produce lighter and more marine whiskies, but how could a Bunnahabhain be before the 1960s? Here, the Toiteach can tell us this.
