Etymology
– Les Chaillots : In Ladoix-Serrigny, the chailles (stony terrain) represent the majority of this lieu-dit located on the alluvial cone of the Combe des Buis valley.
– Les Chagnots : Chagnot, a Burgundian diminutive of Châgne from the Old French noun Chasne “oak”, is found in two lieu-dits near Ladoix-Serrigny: Les Chagnots and Clos des Chagnots, on the border of the D974 Dijon-Beaune road which crosses the village. Indeed, these were places where oak trees abounded.
– Les Vris : In Ladoix-Serrigny, the lands called Les Vris or Sur les Vris are very close to the underground quarries on the lieu-dits Les Briquottes and Les Lièvrières, close to cliffs 10 to 15 meters high. These were ancient quarries from which lava (flat stones) were extracted. “Vris” comes from “Lièvrières” or “Lévrières”. These words were truncated – we don't know why – and only the syllable “Vri(s)” was retained, preceded by the definite article Les.

The vineyard plot(s)
Vines coming from old mass selections are planted next to younger vines, some of which come from clonal selections. The average age of the vines is approximately 35 years.

The soil and the subsoil
Complex formation of slopes of clayey calcareous soils resulting from the modification of the substrate with various screes and colluvial silts on "chailles" (small hard stones). These stones come from the alluvial fan of Buisson and guarantee these relatively fertile soils good drainage and therefore early ripening of the grapes.
