Talisker Port Ruighe (70cl, 45.8%)

Whiskey Talisker Port Ruighe Cask Single Malt 0.70 lt

The name Port Ruighe (read Portree) is that of the largest center on Skye, a trading point for nineteenth-century Scottish merchants who, courageously defying the fury of the North Atlantic, traded with the Portugal.

Aging, not declared, took place in both European and American oak barrels, all refill, i.e. not first filled. Even the length of the finish in classic port pipes is not declared. The alcohol content is the usual, unique one for Talisker: 45.8% ABV.

Talisker Port Ruighe Tasting Node

In the glass, the whiskey has a dark amber color.

Approaching the nose, the first persistent impression is of raisins, dates and vanilla. For a moment, it makes you think of certain finishes in Marsala or rum. Then from this sea of sweetness comes Talisker pepper, but white. The peat remains like a vague background, a weak note that comes and goes without conviction and which only acquires a certain intensity as the minutes pass.

In the mouth, surprisingly, it is the peat that takes its revenge, together with the pepper. Sweetness steps aside: it accompanies from afar, almost supervises, the development, but it is the marine character of Talisker that imposes itself.

The finish is medium long, more sweet than bitter.
