History of Annacoona

The Sanctuary of Diarmait and GraniaThe battle of love associated with the escape of Diarmait and Grania is widely considered the greatest love story in the pantheon of Irish legends. Annacoona is embodied in the story of these mythical lovers as the intertwined expressions of Oloroso and PX Sherry and the Irish single malt whiskey that elucidates a ménage à trois composed of Finn McCool, his betrothed Grania and the libertine Diarmait. During a fateful hunt, set among the lush, deep woods of Keshcorann and the majestic slopes of Ben Bulben, the otherworldly Earless Green Boar appears. During their almighty struggle the beast is slain but Diarmait is fatally gorged. He invites his former friend Finn to take a handful of the healing waters of Seefin Well. Holding this watery elixir hostage in his life-giving hands, Finn wonders if he should save the life of his former love rival. Returning to the prostrate Diarmait, cupping the precious waters in his bucket with his hands, the question remains: "What would you do with one last drop?"
