Azienda Agricola San Ruggiero "CAPOCCIO" Nero di Troia IGT 2015

It is a wine inspired by strength and virility. A persistent wine, with great structure, which recalls in its name one of the knights of the Barletta Challenge: Giovanni Capoccio. Less known than Ettore Fieramosca, but no less. Massimo D'Azeglio in the novel defines him as so skilled with the sword in his hand that he envied nothing of the Orazi and of very noble origins and heart, so much so that, even if unhorsed, he did not shy away from the fight, becoming the true supporter of the victory of Italian honor over the French. It is a wine that, like the knight of fortune, gets to the point: it satisfies and wins.

The San Ruggiero Agricultural Company

In the heart of the Apulian lands, not far from the place where it is said that the Greek hero Diomedes, at the end of the Trojan War, delimited his fields with stones from the mythical city and planted vine shoots in memory of his deeds, stands the cellar of the San Ruggiero farm. Here, right in the locality of Petraro between Barletta and Andria, between two rivers, the great Ofanto and the ancient Aveldium which flowed from the slopes of Castel del Monte, one of the oldest grape varieties of Uva di Troia is born in its so-called variety of " marina” or “barlettana”.
The company founded in 2012 was born from the idea of Ruggiero Tupputi, a radiologist, to retrace the history of his family, guided and driven by his passion for the vineyard in an attempt to enhance an old family vineyard, planted by his grandfather Ruggiero more than 60 first, unique to date in terms of age and type of ancient clones in the Barletta area, resisted the temptation to uproot to make room for more productive vineyards Ruggiero Tupputi today renews his love for this noble native variety in the wake of ancient tradition .
About 2 hectares of vineyards and another 2 cultivated with olive groves, in the Barletta countryside, in the Petraro district, just above sea level and about 4 km from the sea coast. The manual harvest, late for the Nero di Troia (second half of October) and early for the Royal Moscato, allows the selection of the best bunches which will be destemmed and destined for thermo-controlled vinification without the addition of selected yeasts.
