Etymology

In Savigny-lès-Beaune, three perennial springs flowed from a limestone rock located in this locality pronounced in the village "Les Godiaux". In 1858 the water was channeled and allowed to supply the fountain on the church square of Aloxe-Corton. Indeed, this village had major water supply problems until the 1950s. On the first sheet of the first pipe plan, this pipe is called “the sewer”. Wouldn't this also be the meaning of the name of this place? The limestone rock could be considered as a sewer that allows the flow of groundwater. The word Sewer – from the Latin GUTTA “drop of liquid” – means primarily “dripping liquid, rainwater flow”. Here is the flow of spring water.
