El Mero Mezcal Espadin (70CL, 48.0% Vol.)
El Mero Espadin is made with Espadin agave in the city of San Dionisio Ocotopec, Oaxaca. Very little rainfall causes agave to grow at low altitudes in this region. Just like grapes, this stresses the plants, forcing them to create more sugar, which can show up in the flavor. The agave used in this mezcal is crushed tahona, fermented in Encino oak tanks and double distilled in copper. The proofing of this spirit uses no water, only the heads and tails of the distillate. This mezcal has notes of herbaceous smoke, wood resin, earthy minerals and a hint of peppery spice. A typical batch of this Espadin is approximately 500-800 bottles total.

El Mero Mero considers itself "The Mezcalero's Mezcal" and began operating in 2011. All production is overseen by mezcalero Justino Garcia Cruz. The bottle label is designed by Carlos Zerpa, one of the most important contemporary Latin American artists. Senor Cruz and surrounding mezcaleros are slowly and carefully starting to grow Tobala and Tepextate agave to develop more sustainable production practices.
