Rhubarb root is a regulator of digestive functions.

It has aperitif, digestive and liver purifying properties. The use of rhubarb for medicinal and food purposes has very ancient origins.

The rhubarb root forms the heart of our liqueur. The rhizome is collected from plants over one year old, it is decorticated and divided into fragments and dried.

An old-fashioned pharmacist,Dr. Ernesto Zampetti, in the early years of the last century, in his pharmacy in Pontremoli, did his utmost to fulfill his task of treating and improving the existence of the numerous people seeking help and advice who turned to him. He loved his family, Dr. Ernesto, and his neighbor very much, so much so that for years he was the Prior of the local Venerable Misericordia.

With the spirit and dedication of other times, oils, ointments, solutions, tinctures, galenic devices were created by the old pharmacist often struggling with scales, various tools and bottles, into which he poured his laboratory creations. He was treated with a few medicines, then, with herbs, many spells and prayers. The treatments were often based on medicinal herbs, among which Levant Rhubarb (Rheum palmatum) stood out.
Rhubarb root was already being used in the East three centuries before Christ, a medicine that became very famous in Europe since the time of the first imports of oriental spices. Marco Polo himself cited it as an important drug that was widely cultivated and harvested in the regions of Tangurh and Tibet because it was an enormous export. In fact, Rheum palmatum was a spice, and still is, which is part of all the pharmacopoeias of the world and constitutes an almost irreplaceable medicine for apothecaries and preparers. Almost a century ago Dr. Zampetti formulated his first recipes for alcoholic infusions, including one based on rhubarb roots, known for its tonic and digestive properties.
Following this ancient recipe, this elixir with a pleasantly bitter flavor and unmistakable aroma was obtained. Produced and sold until now only in pharmacies in very limited quantities, due to the growing demand of many admirers, it was decided to expand production on a larger scale.
