Mormoreto Marchesi Frescobaldi Toscana IGT 2019

Walking among the rows of Cabernet and Petit Verdot, my thoughts always run back to 150 years ago, when my ancestors first planted these varieties with the desire to produce a great wine. Since 1983 this desire has been realized with the Cru Mormoreto, a wine with a vibrant, profound and harmonious character. Since 2013 a small amount of Sangiovese has further emphasized its elegance.

Climate trend

Climate trendAt Castello Nipozzano, winter 2019 was characterized by long periods of sunshine with low temperatures. The spring, however, was cool, the rains that fell ensured good water reserves to best face the hot summer days. The summer period was characterized by temperature changes that helped provide refreshment during the night; The usual breezes coming from the slopes of the Apennines contributed in particular to this.

Tasting notes

Mormoreto 2019 has an intense and brilliant ruby red color with purple reflections. The bouquet is extremely complex, ranging from notes of red fruits - such as cranberry, raspberry and black cherry - to hints of date and fig, with a delicately citrus finish. The floral sensations of jasmine and rosehip are also interesting. Later, more evolved notes of coffee bean, cocoa powder, tea and tobacco are recognized. On the palate it is complex, persistent and balanced. The tannins are soft and silky. Extremely long finish.

Vinification and maturation

The Mormoreto vineyard is located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, on sandy soils with a south-west exposure. The grapes from the Mormoreto vineyard were harvested manually in 15 kg boxes. After an initial selection of the bunches in the vineyard, these were further selected upon their arrival in the cellar. This attention to detail has guaranteed the highest possible quality. The 2019 harvest gave us wonderfully ripe grapes with a splendid acidic streak. Malolactic fermentation occurred immediately after racking. At the end of the year Mormoreto began its refinement process in French oak barriques, where it remained for the next two years, drawing maximum benefit from the natural micro-oxygenation provided by the oak. After bottling, the subsequent months of aging allowed Mormoreto to balance itself, expressing its elegance and potential to the maximum.
