Querciabella Batar Agricultural Society 2019

A Tuscan white wine as highly regarded as the region's finest red wines,” Batàr enjoys the cult following of an iconic wine. Widely recognized by critics around the world as the ultimate Super Tuscan white and one of Tuscan's greatest white wines Italy, the illustrious Hugh Johnson once described it as "a white man's dream" worthy of being compared to a Grand Cru of Burgundy. In the words of Jancis Robinson, MW OBE is more like a "particularly successful Corton-Charlemagne than Bâtard-Montrachet". Reminiscent of Burgundy, without a doubt, but with unmistakable Tuscan authenticity. Vintage after vintage, Querciabella's forward-thinking winemaking has evolved beyond the hedonistic idea of being able to grow foreign, albeit noble, white grapes in a red wine stronghold to focus on expressing a specific sense of place. Clearly, Batàr's intrinsic vitality and classic minerality derive from the high-altitude vineyards of Ruffoli and the Galestro soil typical of the best Chianti Classico sites. Batàr's legendary ability to defy age and improve over time requires a careful combination of hand-selected Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc grapes, a timely microvinification regime and patient barrel maturation. The long time spent on the lees in premium French barriques allows individual lots to develop their best expression. Only when the optimal elevation is complete is the final mixture obtained through extensive sampling. Further refinement in the bottle, before its release, puts the seal on the layered texture that defines Batàr's proverbial mouthfeel. Since 2010, a much more delicate contact with the lees and less dependence on new wood have defined a distinct freshness and brought citrus and exotic fruit to the fore, with creamy notes now providing a seductive backdrop. No animal products or by-products are used in the production of this wine, making it suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Bright straw yellow core with golden reflections. The scent is broad, aromatic and seductive with hints of acacia flowers, chamomile, yellow peach, yellow plum and melon. Hints of passion fruit and fresh pineapple with light notes of saffron and cedar.

On the palate, the wine is voluptuous but elegant, of great finesse. On the palate it is balanced, supported by great freshness. The tropical fruit repeats on the palate with a surprising minerality and a very long finish.
