The Foreign Lady At the end of the 19th century, the English lady Elisa Croghan found herself managing the large estate of her partner, the last Prince of San Severo, Michele di Sangro. An estate that she will later leave to the city, by will of the Prince himself, and for which this territory will become one of the largest vineyards in Italy. This is how Croghan will enter the history of the Capitanata with the name of La Dama Forestiera and it is with this name that the writer Nino Casiglio of her will title a famous novel by her. Casa d'Araprì admiringly dedicates this Cuvée to her, obtained from black grapes: Montepulciano and Pinot Noir, coming from its own vineyards, vinified in white and of which only the first pressing must is used. The Dama Forestiera is produced in the "Nature" type and only in Magnum bottles, which are refined for at least five years in the cellars of the Casa d'Araprì, wonderful monuments of "master masons" of the 18th century, which extend underground in the center of San Severo. It is this slow refinement, in the freshness, quiet and dim light that gives the "Dama Forestiera" the finesse and elegance that distinguishes it and makes the Casa d'Araprì one of the most sought after and appreciated producers of Classic Method in Italy Grape varieties: Montepulciano and Pinot Noir Production area: San Severo Vineyard: Contrada Cotinone and Contrada San Matteo – 2+ 12 hectares Soil type: clayey – calcareous, on a slight slope. Exposure and altitude: South South-West, 80-100 meters above sea level. Training system and planting density: Espalier – 3500 plants per hectare, Apulian pergola – 2000 plants per hectare. Yield per hectare: 100-120 quintals per hectare, approximately 3-4 kg per vine Harvest period: end of August pinot noir and late September Montepulciano, with manual harvesting and selection of the grapes. Aging and permanence on the yeasts: each bottle of Dama Forestiera rests for a minimum of 48 months away from light, air currents and impacts, at a temperature of 13 °C, in the basement of our ancient cellar. Disgorgement: a la glace manually, without adding the dosage syrup, approximately two months before marketing.
Colour: elegant with a golden yellow colour, it offers very dense and small bubbles. Nose: rich in complexity and the elegance of the mature aromas with a spice component is immediately striking. Taste: it has a greedy and full approach as on the nose, with good body and structure with notable length of flavour. Format: only in 1.5 lt Magnum bottle.
